Last winter, my brother Conrad and I invented the best shot ever created--assuming you're a freak like us who enjoys hot, savory alcoholic beverages. (Daniel does not like savory drinks, hot or cold. But I think HE'S the freak.)
--Bone broth is best when homemade, particularly by your dad. To stay on-theme, use chicken bone broth. Veggie broth works, too! Veggie broth is bone broth made from vegetable bodies, when you really think about it. MMMMMM.
--If you're making the bone broth yourself, don't add a ton of apple cider vinegar to it. Ignore the recipes you find online and add, like, maaaaybe a thimbleful, and even then, use white vinegar. Add more very slowly to taste. If you're buying it, make sure they don't add a ton of apple cider vinegar. Why do people love adding apple cider vinegar to bone broth? You need a balanced flavor, sure, but people (who are not your dad) tend to go overboard and it ends up tasting less like hot, wholesome broth and more like bile.
--EVERYTHING MUST BE HOT. Hot broth, hot pierogi (and even though the shot officially involves just one pierog, you can have two. It's ok to treat yo'self, and it is physically impossible to eat only one).
--Pierogi are also best when homemade, particularly by you and your mom, because the two of you are a real dream team and you've got the stuff-and-pinch assembly line down. (But for real, if you want a good pierogi recipe, I'll hook you up in the near future.)
--If you can handle some spicy (I hope you can), it's really good to get a habanero- or jalapeño-infused vodka. You may think it's a bit of a departure from the theme, but I'm pretty confident that Baba Yaga would approve of the punch.
Why on earth would you drink hot coco when you could drink this?
